День первый проекта «30 дней с Apple iPad» лишь обозначил проблему.
День второй поможет разобраться, какой айпад выбрать: первый или второй, белый или черный, с 3G или только с wi-fi, 16-32-64 Гб. И так, вперде!

Если вы задумались об использовании айпада в качестве замены настольного компа или ноута, чем занимаюсь я в этом месяце в рамках проекта «30 дней с iPad», то вам придется определиться, какую модель выбрать для работы. Естественно, если у вас уже есть iPad, вы будете пользоваться тем, что имеете. Я же сегодня обращу внимание на ключевые моменты, которые следует держать в голове при намечающейся покупке.
iPad versus iPad 2. Первый вопрос: а действительно ли вам нужен iPad 2. Новый первый айпад вы уже не купите официальными путями, но их уйма на сайтах вроде Craigslist. В районе Хьюстона есть несколько первых iPad’ов от $250 за базовую модель с вайфаем и 16 Гб памяти, что составляет почти половину стоимости нового iPad 2 с теми же 16 Гб памяти и wi-fi.
А вот у нас в том же ре-сторе первый айпад (64Гб, wi-fi, 3G) стоит 20 кр, а второй базовый (16 Гб и только вайфай) — 19 000 р. Специфика. (Здесь и далее примечания jackyfox’a)
Нужен ли iPad 2 или можно обойтись первым?
Ну, что нужен вам iPad 2? Будучи владельцем первого айпада, должен сказать, что не нашел во втором ничего такого, чтобы тут же сорваться и купить его. Да, он тоньше, он легче, он быстрее — это всё так, но не один из этих параметров не влияет на большинство выполняемых айпадом функций. Одно различие — это камеры, у первого айпада нет ниодной, а у второго аж две — спереди и сзади.
Если вам не нужны камеры, то вам подойдет первый iPad. Но, если вы хотите фотографировать, чатиться с видео по FaceTime, или устраивать видеоконференции через Fuze Meeting, то придется обзавестись вторым айпадом.
Wi-Fi против 3G. Для ответа на этот вопрос надо разобраться с парой моментов. Во-первых, где вы будете чаще всего пользоваться айпадом и как часто путешествовать с ним. Во-вторых, есть ли у вас другое устройство, через которое вы сможете подключаться к сотовой сети.
Если вы планируете пользоваться айпадом только в домашнем офисе или других местах, вроде Старбакса, где гарантированно есть беспроводное подключение, то наличие 3G вам без разницы. А вот если вам нужен доступ в Сеть в поездке, типа в такси, или поезде, то лучше, конечно, обзавестись моделью с 3G.
Здесь мы подходим ко второму пункту. Что если у вас уже есть мобильная 3G или 4G точка доступа wi-fi, вроде Verizon MiFi, или iPhone или какой-то другой смартфон, способный выступать в роли точки доступа wi-fi, разделяя тем самым доступ к Сети с другими устройствами, тогда вам не нужен iPad с собственным подключением к сотовой сети.
Вот тут я хочу выразить свое спасибо Тони, потому что сам как-то не дошел до мысли о шаринге инета с телефона через точку доступа. Наверное, из-за того, что такого телефона у меня пока не было
Мой iPhone со мной круглосуточно, тогда имеет смысл брать iPad с wi-fi без 3G и использовать iPhone как точку доступа, когда это необходимо. Такая схема имеет смысл с финансовой и логической точек зрения.
Я подключен к AT&T и плачу $25 в месяц за 2 Гб трафика для айфона 4. Если бы у меня был iPad с 3G, он обходился бы мне в еще $25 за отдельные 2 Гб трафика для планшетника. За $45 я получу 4 Гб трафика, общего для обоих.
64 Гб могут быть излишни, но взяв 16 Гб, можно пожалеть. Берите 32 Гб
Такой подход не только сэкономит пять баксов, но и даст мне свободу, если я качну больше 2 Гб трафика на одном устройстве, например, 3 Гб на айпаде и 1 Гб на айфоне. Используя отдельные тарифные планы, мне пришлось бы заплатить $35 за iPad ($25 за 2 Гб и еще $10 за дополнительный трафик), и $25 за 2 Гб для айфона, даже если бы я использовать только половину доступного трафика. В таком сценарии в конечном итоге я заплачу на $15 больше за те же 4 Гб трафика только потому, что они разделены на два тарифных плана.
16 Гб vs. 32 Гб vs. 64 Гб. Какого объема памяти будет достаточно? Одно из частых разочарований и главных аргументов соперничающих планшетников — это наличие слотов для SD карт и USB-портов для расширения внутренней памяти. У айпада нет ни того, ни другого (ну, вообще-то есть пути с использованием комплекта для подключения камеры и толикой уличной магии).
Можно положиться на сетевые сервисы вроде Box.net или Ubuntu One или же воспользоваться беспроводным внешним диском типа Seagate GoFlex Satellite. Но, если вам не охота таскать с собой дополнительный гаджет, и iPad у вас без 3G, а доступ к данным вам нужен в любом месте, то вы будете ограничены объемом внутренней памяти айпада.
Лично я рекомендую 32 Гб модель. 64 Гб может оказаться избыточным для планшета. В купе с различными сетевыми сервисами хранения данных — включая надвигающийся iCloud от Apple — не имеет смысла превращать iPad в файлопомойку.
Тем не менее, 16 Гб могут заполниться очень быстро. Музыка, фильмы, книги хранимые на айпаде, различные программы, подкасты, самодельные фотки и видео — всё это заставит вас постоянно следить за оставшимся свободным местом на 16 гигах. Берите 32 гиговый — потом спасибо скажете.
На заметку, для целей этого проекта я пользуюсь 64 гиговой моделью второго айпада с wi-fi. Имейте это в виду, читая о моих приключениях в оставшиеся дни из этих 30.
